Nick Nicholson says that as our National Board member for SAG-AFTRA he’s going to bring in film work to the Houston - Austin local, and I believe him because of my personal experience with him. I have a film script that I’ve been developing over the last year or two, and I have in mind to shoot it, a wonderful, talented young lady director in Austin and I wanna do it here, in the Houston - Austin area. There are several speaking parts, there are extra parts available. It would be great, I’d love to do it.

Well, I wanted to submit it to the Austin Film Society for their latest grant proposal and I needed a budget. But I had no idea how to do it, see I’m primarily an audio book narrator. I don’t know about production cost things and that sort of thing. So I called up a couple of friends, including Nick. Nick said, ‘Hey can I read the film script?’ That’s fantastic, no one else asked to read the film script.

Well he read it, liked it, thought it was worth doing and said, ‘I can do a budget for it’.

You can? Sure enough, a couple of days later, there was a costing - two pages, 40 line items, something like that. I wouldn’t have been able to do it myself. I thought it was fantastic! Very helpful.

Well, he said, if you get money from the Austin Film Society there are other funding targets out there. I’ve done that (meaning Nick), I’ve done that before; been in 20-some-odd films over the last 10 years, helped attract a certain amount of money to certain productions. There might be that money available for your production. I said this is fantastic.

Well, I submitted to the Austin Film Society. I didn’t get any money, but what I got out of it was a package that I can submit to any Film Society because Nick helped me with the budget.

That’s why I believe that Nick means what he says and that he has the experience and is capable of drawing that filmwork to the Houston - Austin Local. Now that would be wonderful for us, don’t you think? That’s why where ever I see Nick’s name on the ballot, I’m voting for Nick Nicholson!
